My First Ever Blogging Award
I have super exciting news! My baby (read: blog) is a little over one month old today and I feel so incredibly honored today to announce that I’ve been nominated for the Liebster Award.
A big thank you to Yuyu from TypeEighty, who nominated me, first and foremost. TypeEighty is a great, new, minimalist style (loveee clean looking blogs), blog on productivity, tutorials, products or reviews. So head on over there and show your fellow new blogger some love!
A Lot More Thank Yous
Thank you to the blogging community. Thank you to all the other bloggers who have inspired and encouraged me, and everyone who has welcomed me with open arms. The blogging community is truly unlike any other.
As many of you may know, I do not come from a background in finance. My lack of knowledge is what actually ended up being my inspiration for creating A Millennial Spirit.
I decided one day I was going to make an effort to actually understand investing and stocks. I thought I’d just have to google it and click on the first link and then I could get started with the fun part, picking my stocks.
Wow, was I wrong.
The first entire page of results from Google on investing did not help me AT ALL! Most were no longer than a couple paragraphs and/or used terms I didn’t understand, which led to me having to open a second page where I was googling terms the first page was using. And that article had even been titled something like “how to get started investing”.
Yeah, maybe if you already had a degree in finance.
Not if you literally knew nothing, like me. So, I started reading everything I could find about investing online, watching Youtube videos, and reading books.
I kept thinking that it would be so much easier if there was just a website that clearly explained investing for young beginners, in simple terms. I didn’t want to become a day trader, I just wanted someone to explain investing, simply, and to just define the investing lingo they were using!
And then I thought, if it doesn’t exist already, then why don’t I create it? I now had the investing knowledge, I’d done all the research already, why not just type it up and publish it so that if anyone ever googled the same things I did, they could have a clear guide to get them started (lol at thinking that blogging would be that easy).
And so I pieced together a guide on basic investing for beginners, one of my very first posts.
Rules Of The Liebster Award
If you choose to accept it, you write a post accepting your nomination. You then nominate other new bloggers (and link to them)!! Basically, us new bloggers give other new bloggers a shout out, who then pay it forward to other new bloggers. And so on and so on. There’s not an actual “award” per say, it’s more of just a really great recognition chain linking us newbies together.
Those are the basic rules, anyway.
I’ve seen lots of variations of the exact rules, so here’s a great post summarizing all the different variations.
Answers To My Questions
1. What is your favorite book or series?
My very favorite book is Ernest Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises. It is a beautiful exploration by Hemingway of what came to be known as the “lost generation”, the generation of young people who had their dreams and innocence destroyed by the ravages of World War I.
2. When do you find time to blog?
I work on my blog pretty much every free second I have, to be honest. It’s a bit of an obsession, I’ll admit it.
3. What do you struggle the most with blogging?
So far, I’ve been struggling the most with patience. While things have been picking up a little lately, it can be discouraging at first to spend hours researching and writing posts and then seeing your blog get 0 visitors, especially since my main goal is to share my findings in hopes that it will help others. I have to remind myself that I’m brand new to this blogging thing often and that it takes time.
4. What would make you give up blogging?
I would give up blogging if my content stopped providing value to my readers. The internet is already filled with poorly written and/or just plain inaccurate blogs and if I would seriously reevaluate if I ever thought I was contributing even one blog post to that group.
5. What is that one post made by you that you like the most, and why?
My very favorite post is also my very first post, about the inspiration behind my blog’s name. The spirit found in millennials inspires me every day to create content that can help us all. I think it’s so beautiful to see the strength of the human spirit.
6. If you could have 1 lunch with any famous person of your choice, who would that be and why?
Mark Cuban! It would for sure be an interesting lunch, and he has always been such an inspiration to me. I feel he remembers his roots and how hard he’s worked to get where he is now. I always like successful people who advocate for us, the hard working, blue collar, typical, worker.
7. What is the most extreme thing you have ever done?
Give up my full-time career to start this blog 😉
8. If you could be any superhero, who would you be and why?
Catwoman because who doesn’t love a powerful female figure?
My Nominations (New Bloggers With Under 200 Readers):
*This list is still a work in progress! I’d love to add more new blogger names to it so let me know if you’d be interested!*
Plus a shoutout to the adorable blog The Walking Mermaid, I also wanted to nominate her but somebody else beat me to it!

Conclusion: I Get Sentimental
The Liebster award really sums up why I am loving blogging so much. Blogging is such an amazing community where most bloggers try to help other bloggers to the very best of their abilities. We all work together to make blogging better for everyone and I doubt there is a community more expansive and welcoming on the planet.
